Top 5 hiking trails near Toronto

Happy Friday friend! I hope you had a wonderful week and are as ready as I am for the weekend ahead. This may be the last weekend of summer, but I intend to enjoy it to the max, with a hike or two (or more!) to my favourite trails. Today, I’m sharing with you a few of my favourite hiking trails within Toronto.

1. Don Valley Brick Works Park
This is one of my recently discovered trails this summer and I love how close it is to the city. There are so many activities taking place in this area, including the Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Artisan Market on Sundays.
There are also several art exhibits, cultural events and opportunities to learn about the city’s history, so I’d definitely recommend this site as must visit over summer.
My favourite part of this park is the sustainable practices developed through creating an eco-system for the wildlife and marine life. Visitors can view snapping turtles, fish, rabbits, deer, beavers and more! Here are some photos taken at this Don Valley Brick Works park:

2. Crawford Lake Conservation Area
Take a visit to Crawford Lake and discover a hidden gem within the Milton area. Learn about the First Nations culture and history by wandering through the  Iroquoian Longhouse Village or take a walk along boardwalk and enjoy the Meromictic Lake. You can also the explore the different trails including Hide and Seek trail and the Nassagaweya Canyon Trail, which connects the Crawford Lake park and Rattlesnake Point. Below are some photos taken during our visit to Crawford Lake Conservation Area:

3. Bruce Trail
The Bruce Trail is largely popular for its Niagara Escarpment waterfalls and throughout the summer, you can find several visitors roaming the trails to catch a picture perfect shot of the waterfalls. Here are some shots at my favourite waterfalls along the Bruce Trail:

4. Scarborough Bluffs
With a 15km stretch along the Lake Ontario shore, the Bluffs span from Toronto’s Eastern Beaches to East Point Park in the east end. There are 11 parks within the Bluffs, featuring trails, gardens, beaches and much more.
This site is widely known for its geological features and is a highly visited spot for social media fans. While the Bluffs are extremely Instagram worthy, some visitors have endured fatal incidents in stepping too closely to the edge, so please my friend, do exercise caution and remain behind the fence in order to avoid injury.
I’ve visited only one park called Bluffer’s Park, but do intend to visit the others come next summer. Here are a few photos of this park:

5. Bruce Peninsula National Park
Okay, this park may not be located near Toronto but it’s certainly worth the 4 hour drive! The trail which I recently visited runs along Cyprus Lake (you will need to know this name for the parking) and stretches across the Niagara Escarpment. This park features a highly popular tourist attraction called The Grotto, which is a limestone cave overlooking Georgian Bay. Visitors can hike further along the cliff toward Indian Head Cove and beyond the caves toward Stormhaven Beach. Here are some photos of the hike at Bruce Peninsula National Park:

So there you have it – my top 5 hiking trails within and around Toronto, which you can easily access for your next hiking adventure! I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you have any recommendations of other hiking trails which may not be mentioned above, feel free to add them in the comments below!

Take care my friend, and we’ll talk soon in the next post!
